Pine Needle Basket Weaving Basics

You will learn the basic methods of coiled weaving. We will use pine needles as our weaving material, though this technique can be used with other materials as well. You will start your weaving around a decorative center. You will use the basic swirling stitch gives your woven piece stability and is very attractive. Learn how to shape your basket to its desired form.

Fused Geometric Wall Clock

You will be creating a bright colorful contemporary wall clock which will add a splash of color to your home or office.

Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have a chance to use frit, stringers, and nuggets with other geometric shapes of glass. We will discuss how to drill a hole in your project and the placement of the hole for proper mounting on the wall.

Intro to Drypoint (Intaglio)

A great introduction to the intaglio process! Drypoint is done by drawing directly on a plate using a sharp pointed tool without using acid. Drypoint is known for its velvety, rich, tonal line and textural quality that results when a burr is lifted in the metal (or plexiglass) plate during the drawing process.

Ceramic Garden Sun

The students will learn basic clay techniques to build a high fired "Mexican" Sun. They can be personalized to look like someone you know or ideas from the instructor. Multi color clays will be used. Surface Design Series: #2 Hand Stitch & Embellishment

This workshop will work with basic stitch/embroidery techniques to create two projects. Students will be embellishing small pieces of fabric which they will use to create a small, wearable pocket/pouch. For the second project, students will create a small cover for a mini art-journal which they will also make in class.

Intro to Leatherwork: The Perfect Little Clutch

In this class you will learn about the art of working with leather. All while making a sweet little clutch.

When do you hand sew, when do you use a machine? When do you glue and finish edges? What is "hardware" and when/why do you use it? We can answer those questions and much more! In this class we will go over the basics of hand working leather. We will be going old school and learning the beautiful art of hand sewing leather. No machine required! Miniature Sweetgrass Basket

Class description: Using western red cedar bark as the structure, this little basket will be twined with Northwest sweetgrass with an accent of skip stitch or triple twining. The finish is a folded border. Students may start another miniature if time allows.

Surface Design Series: #4 Printing, Stenciling & Image Transfer

Relief Printmaking, Beginning & Continuing

This course will introduce students to relief printmaking using linoleum as a support. We will start with reductive technique and move on to multiple blocks. Color mixing will be covered.

Students will learn how to prepare their paper, register their prints for multiple printings, carve linoleum plates, mix colors and handle the press.

Silk Painting

In this fun workshop, students will learn the basics of painting upon silk using the Serti technique. In the workshop, students will learn the basics of how to select silks for painting. Two Two Twill

Sounds like a dance step; "doin' the two-two twill" and it's oh-so-much fun with prepared red cedar bark, natural or dyed for contrast. Combine a classically great material and a rhythmical weavers' technique to make the first of many great baskets. So versatile, these "steps" can be interpreted in a lovely rising rectangle or free style graceful tune - finished with an exquisite folded border or go funky with lashing.

Celtic Lettering (Calligraphy)

Rooted in History, Uncials are a delightful rounded letterform that are easy to learn and useful. In this class we will study a few historical samples from the Book of Kells.With this inspiration we will learn how the basic shapes are made that form the alphabet. Next we will use a Calligraphy pen to write the alphabet. Understanding how to use the pen will be an important part of this class.

Two of Schack's favorite teachers are serving up a collaborative class for you to cut your own cabochon stone (with Art Cass) and create a custom sterling silver setting for your gem (with Julia Lowther). 

You'll love this class so much we'll have to shoo you out of the jewelry studio when the class is over!

Fused Coral Sea Bowl

You will be creating a beautiful sea-inspired coral bowl to adorn your tabletop.

Fused Pocket Flower Vase

You will be creating small pocket vases to hang and display your favorite flowers.
