Acrylic Painting Camp

Acrylics are one of the most versatile media ever invented! Bright, luminous colors, ease of use, and infinite techniques make acrylic painting a boundless, creative choice. Whether you are intrigued by acrylic's potential, or have worked in acrylic for years, this class has something for everyone! We will cover the basics of composition, light & shadow, color harmony, and perspective. You will have the opportunity to paint a variety of subjects: landscapes, animals, plants, national parks, birds, sailboats, still lifes. We will delve into some of the alternative techniques acrylics has to offer: washes, layering, dripping, sponging, spraying, textured mediums, collage, etc!  Expand your creative horizons in this fun and informative class! Animal Art

Drawing and painting animals is extremely easy and fun- you will be amazed as you bring these creatures to life! In this class you will learn how to depict a wide variety of animals doing what they do best- running, jumping, flying, swimming, etc. We will be drawing and painting animals and birds such as owls, tigers, parrots, wolves, hummingbirds, housecats, pelicans, bears, etc! We will be drawing in a variety of media, and covering anatomy, highlights/ shadow, composition, action, etc., in this exciting class!

Beyond Selfies & Snapshots by Phone & Tablet

Can phone and tablet pictures rock?  Yes!  Do you need a big, expensive camera to capture a cool image?  No!  With example pictures and hands-on field trips, you'll learn how that device already in your pocket or backpack can make a big impression.  We'll cover

- the properties of light: dull to dramatic,

- posing for that best look,

- principles of composition and

- adding impact to food and still-life pics.

Then we'll dive into editing apps to adjust your images on your device.  Lastly, we'll cover different ways to display your pictures - from prints on metal to books to coasters and mugs.  No experience required.  Bring any recent tablet or phone that has a digital camera and can be connected to the internet.

Big Fun with Color

Collage - Mixed Media with Nature

Utilizing real objects from nature, such as leaves, pine cones, acorns, and photos of animals, and favorite people, students will draw, trace, layer and glue to create a masterpiece of imagery, shape, lines, texture and color. Very fun! Think and act out of the box to explore your creativity! Teacher will demonstrate at beginning of first class, but everyone will also start their first project, so bring supplies to first class.

Create a "Live Your Words" Book

What do you value? Is it creativity, freedom, love of music, sense of humor, love of outdoors, integrity or honesty?

Wouldn't it be fantastic if your life could reflect what you value? It can, with a little creative information gathering and planning. Whether it is choosing a college, a job, friends relationships or workouts, identifying your values allows you to make choices that fit your life. In this class you will discover your values and use that information to collage an accordion book showcasing your vision.

Create Your Own Zine

Zines are self published, handcrafted magazines made outside of mainstream press and media, by all kinds of people about all kinds of things. Zines may include comics, drawings, photographs, stories, poems, interviews, reviews, collage and more. They also make great school reports, fundraising items and memories.

Drawing is the foundation of the visual arts and anyone can learn to draw! This class will build a solid foundation of drawing skills to strengthen your ability to express your creativity!  The instructor will demonstrate specific techniques to render realistically using line and contour, shape and form, light and shadow, space and depth, proportion and perspective. Explore the fascinating world of fantasy creatures in this exciting new class! We will depict Dragons, Dinos, Mecha, Monsters, Robots, Elves, Gnomes, Trolls, Shape- Shifters, Mutants, Clones, Giant Insectoids, Animal- Creature Hybrids, Multi- Creature Hybrids, and all the amazing things they do! Running, flying, swimming, battling foes, rescuing heroes, breathing fire, etc,! Figure Drawing with Clothed Models

Figure Drawing is the FOUNDATION FOR ALL THE VISUAL ARTS! If you learn to draw the human figure, you can do anything in the Arts. Students will learn proportions, anatomy, design, and 'right brain seeing' while they create gesture drawings, contour drawings and formal images.

High School Glassblowing

Teens, this class is your opportunity to learn to blow glass. Using 2000° furnaces (hot enough to turn a mixture of sand and soda ash into glass) you will practice the basics of blown glass and solid sculpted forms.  No prerequisite.  Beginner

Intro to Op, Pop and Surrealism

Introduction to 3 fun art movements: Op Art, Pop Art and Surrealism. For each topic, the student will learn a brief history of the art movement and then will be instructed through creating their own piece based on the lesson introduced.  Three distinct projects will be created including one ink, one acrylic paint and one collage project.  Student will learn about theme, colors, layout, etc. from each of the three art movements as they create their own Op, Pop and Surrealist style works.

Junk Journaling Camp

Save your junk mail, magazines & catalogues, cracker and cereal boxes and bring all the out of date scrapbook papers you haven't been able to part with yet.  We will spend the day transforming all of this ho hum paper into amazing, unique papers and then binding them into a journal. Twenty techniques and four projects will be created in the workshop.

Keeping a Nature Journal

This course is for both the beginning and the experienced artist who wants to connect with nature through sketching and writing. Even if you think you can't draw or write, this course will appeal to anyone who loves nature. We will learn to observe closely, sketch with confidence, narrate the changing details of the seasons, and more. We will learn simple step-by-step methods for recording on paper what you see in the natural world.

Prehistoric Creatures

Travel back in time, and explore the fascinating world of Prehistoric Creatures in this exciting new class! We will learn to depict Prehistoric animals of the land, sea, and air in this exciting, fascinating class! These will include: Dinosaurs (land), Pterodactyls (sky), Ichthyosaurs (sea), and Plesiosaurs (sea). Additional animals include: Mammoths, Sabretooth Tigers, Ancient Crocs and Turtles, Trilobites, etc ! We will explore creatures in a variety of media- starting with pencil drawing, and continuing on in with Acrylic Painting!

Satellite Baskets

This intro to random weave basketry is great for all ages! Learn how to make frames with sticks and vines and roots from the garden. Then fill all the spaces up with cross weaving and make a hanger to float your creation from the ceiling or out in the night sky! Plan to get a little dirty and use your muscles in this fun class.

Sculpture Workshop for Kids

Five creativity stimulating projects based on famous sculptor's works which the student will learn to recognize. Students will design and build their sculptures using imagination, problem solving skills, and the principles and elements of design encouraged by an experienced art teacher. Mediums include: wire, paper, beads, plaster, tissue, wood and paint. Dress for a mess.

Four fantastic days of art making! In this fine art camp, your child will explore drawing, painting and printmaking. Mediums including watercolor, acrylic, pastel, pencil and ink will be used. New and fun projects completed daily. Aprons provided, but please have your child dress for mess.

Twining - Weaving

Weaving a twisted stitch called "Twining" is the foundation to making all kinds and shapes of baskets. Spend a week exploring this fun technique and make several different styles while you learn--a new form each day, hurray!

Suitable to many levels and a really dandy starting point, so kids over 12 and adults of all levels welcome.
