Lust for Rust: Rust Dyed Patterns

Silk Painting Workshop for Beginners

A fun introduction to fiber art - painting on silk! The students will learn the basics of how to select silks, get them ready to paint, how to paint, how to set their dyes, and how to mount their artwork. They will come away with enough information to help them get started on their own silk painting journey.

This class is designed to teach students techniques beyond the basics. You choose the project and skills you would like to learn or improve.                                             
Students may also bring their existing projects to work on and receive technical help. Learn how to do copper foil overlay, incorporate actual river rocks, and more.

Previous stained glass knowledge is required.

Glassblowing II

If you already know the basics of blowing glass, but aren't quite ready to work on your own, this class is for you. The use of handles, bits, and wraps will be covered, as will color application. Intermediate - Prerequisite: Glass I (taken twice) or one year experience

Random Weave Baskets

Create a unique, personalized basket embellished with natural materials. You will learn to construct a vessel out of flat reed using a random weave basketry technique in this fun, creative workshop. Students will explore stamping and other surface design applications to their baskets and then will embellish them.

Art & Coffee: Coral Sea Bowl

You will be creating a beautiful sea-inspired coral bowl to adorn your tabletop.

Students will make a 10"-13" fused coral bowl using strips of glass. Additional design elements can be added with frit and nuggets.

Wacky Baskets

Create a personalized random weave basket made out of paper strips. Strips are colored and stamped and then woven into baskets. They can be embellished with beads, shells, etc.

Intermediate Lapidary

Pre requisite beginning class or instructor approved. This class will cover techniques for stones hardness 7 and greater. Free form shaping.

Students will learn advanced stone shaping skills.

Students will make cabochon and free form shapes of increasing complexity.

Lapidary Open Studio

Spend the afternoon working independently on your lapidary project. We will have a room monitor available but no instruction. We provide the equipment, you provide your own rocks.

MUST have take Beginning Lapidary or pass an access test with monitor.

Art & Wine: Fused Pocket Flower Vase

You will be creating small pocket vases to hang and display your favorite flowers.

Students will learn basic fusing concepts. You will be using fiber paper to create your pocket shape.

Students will get to make up to six small pocket vases. Additional design elements can be added with frit, stringers, noodles and nuggets.

Beginning Lapidary

Student will learn techniques to shape a slab of stone into a cabochon suitable for use in jewelry or other art work (hardness no greater than 7). 

Properties of types of stone and recognizing optimum shape for a cabochon will be taught. 

Students will be instructed in machine usage and safety as well as machine cleaning after use.

Word on the Street Encaustic Workshop

We will be using our words in hidden ways to express ourselves in several ways, this is such a beautiful class and will instill new way of journaling into art.  We will create 4 lovely pieces. This class them is of earthy hues and inks and charcoal.

Art How2's 2017: Adding the A to STEM.

Schack Art Center is offering the eighteenth annual Art Technique Workshop Series for credit or clock hours. This course consists of 4 Wednesday evening sessions taught by local educators Mari Atkinson and Jody Cain. Come and participate in classes focused on a key educational issue in education; using creativity to teach sciences and the arts.

Art & Coffee: Fused Pocket Picture Frame

You will be creating a fused pocket picture frame that will sit on your mantle, desk or shelf to display your favorite memories.

Students will learn basic fusing concepts. You will be using fiber paper to create the pockets for the photos.

Students will have their choice of making either a bifold picture frame that will hold 3 1/2" x 5" photos or a trifold picture frame that will hold 1 3/4" x 2 1/2" wallet size photos. Additional design elements can be added with frit, stringers, noodles and nuggets.
