Bronze Age Meets the Digital Age
July 21, 2012
Schack Art Center, Studios 1 & 2
Sculptor Kevin Pettelle will illustrate, using as an example his recent commission 'Late for the Interurban' located in Fremont Seattle, how exciting recent advances in digital technology aid in the ancient methods of lost wax casting. A time for questions and answers will follow the presentation.
In 1987 Pettelle established NW Artworks Bronze Casting Service with his father Ed and brother Todd. It was there he gained an extensive knowledge of the lost wax method of casting, learning all aspects of this ancient and complicated process. With its tactile warmth, historic durability and a remarkable ability to accent form, bronze has proven the perfect medium of choice to express himself.
A respropective of his more than thirty years of work may currently be seen at the Schack Art Center in his solo exhibit "Celebration of the Human Form" through July 29.
