Tiny Glass Pumpkins - An Intro to Lampwork Glass

Ages: 18 and up

Levels: All levels

Sessions: One

Instructor: Staci Adman

Create small glass pumpkins by heating glass rods in the flame of a bench-mounted torch and transferring the molten gather onto the end of a stainless steel mandrel. Learn to control the glass and form it into a sphere which can then be shaped into a pumpkin while still molten. A great introduction to the basics of manipulating hot glass on a very small scale!

Students will learn confidence in lighting a lampworking torch, melting "soft glass" rods in the flame, transferring glass onto a mandrel, making a round glass shape, shaping glass with a blade.

Students will make a few to several tiny glass pumpkins, depending on the pace of the student! (The pumpkins will need to be annealed in the kilns overnight and picked up the next day or beyond)
