Teen Art Classes

Alcohol Inks

Students will explore the world of alcohol ink, using a variety of colors, including metallics, to create abstracts or abstract landscapes and florals.

They will learn the characteristics of alcohol ink, and several techniques to manipulate the ink such as blowing with a straw, making color washes, misters, daubers, how to use medium and alcohol, and finish with rubber stamps.

Cartooning

Write! Draw! Ink! This workshop allows young artists to learn the process of cartooning and drawing caricatures. Students will follow along on a step by step basis to draw some favorite characters as well as create their own characters and write and draw their own stories.

Ceramic Tidepool with Melted Glass

Make a beautiful treasure. Everyone loves to look at sea life in a tidepool and this is your time to create your own. Students will learn to create the bowl and sea animals using basic clay hand building techniques.

Continuing Lampwork Glass Beadmaking

If you have taken Beginning Lampwork Glass and would like an advanced course  in the medium, then this is the class for you. Continue to build your torch and shaping skills.

Expressive Portrait Drawing

In this class students will learn the basics of creating expressive pencil portraits in graphite and other media such as oil pastel and colored pencil, working step by step on a drawing from a photographic reference. They will become familiar with the natural way to explore line, negative space,  proportion, values, shading, perspective, and other essential elements to represent the features and expressiveness of the human face.

Fluid Acrylics: Exploring Intuitive Abstract Painting

Previously featured in USA Today and O Magazine, this fun and fluid workshop is a great way for beginning and mid career painters to unleash their artistic passion and discover (or rediscover) their intuitive creative voice.

As we explore the exciting world of intuitive abstract painting, texture, line, form and color come alive with vibrant fluid acrylic paint, wide brushes and a unique assortment of mark making tools.

Galaxy Watercolor Painting

This class will teach watercolor fundamentals to individuals who are new to watercolor painting. Fundamentals include paper type and watercolor technique

Students will create a variety of watercolor paintings using space and the galaxy as the subject matter.

HOT WAX: Beginning Encaustic Painting

In this workshop beginning encaustic students will receive complete basic encaustic painting instruction. This will include history and safety information on encaustic painting, a complete overview of the materials including medium, paint, tools, brushes and the hot palette, encaustic medium making instruction and DIY recipe, fusing fundamentals with heat guns and blow torches, substrate (supports) overview and preparation including smooth vs textured surface techniques, preparing hot wax paints, and learning how to do color layering and suspension. By the end of the day each student will have completed multiple practice boards and four finished abstract encaustic paintings on wood panels.

Intro to Needle Felting

In this class students will discover how fun and easy it is to create with wool fleece. From simple wool beads to intricately detailed small figures, the creative possibilities are endless! Students will leave class with new felted creations plus the tools and knowledge to keep on creating more at home.

Kids Drawing

Drawing is extremely easy and fun! We will be drawing a variety of subjects such as landscapes, animals, flowers and still lives in this class. We will be working in several drawing media and will be covering contrast, highlights/shadow, composition etc. in this exciting class! The subjects will be taught in a step-by-step fashion. You will be able to follow along with the steps to acheive beautiful finished projects!

Monochrome Watercolor Mountains

This class will teach watercolor fundamentals to individuals who are new to watercolor painting. Fundamentals include paper type and watercolor technique, wet on dry and wet on wet painting techniques and basic color theory.

Students will create a variety of watercolor paintings using a monochrome palette and mountains as subject matter.

Needle Felting Hearts

Learn the basics of needle felting while creating unique needle felted hearts for Valentine's Day. We will explore options for embellishing our hearts with more wool, beads and sequins. All supplies will be provided and you will take home felting tools, wool roving and inspiration to continue creating on your own.

New Bark: Shimmer & Glimmer

Discover the beauty and flexibility of willow bark woven onto a molded form. Learn and choose how to use the potential of natural materials. Explore forming a base, twining, simple weave to a shapely contour. Become familiar with border options and finish techniques. Great fun for all levels and a glowing treasure on your table!

Oil Painting on Gold Leaf

Paint Like Pollock

Take a look into the intriguing art of Jackson Pollock known as action paintings, also known as fractal or abstract drip splatter paintings. Students will dribble, splatter and splash paint onto a large canvas while painting on the floor, Pollock style.

Picture This! Make a Mosaic Frame

Welcome to a basic introduction to mosaics by creating a glass mosaic frame. Students will pick the colors of glass, learn how to break the glass into desired shapes, glue it to the substrate and then during the second class, grout the mosaic to make a completed finished mosaic frame.

Relaxing Watercolor Painting

In this class, students will learn basic watercolor techniques and color theory as it relates to emotional expression. Students will create an abstract watercolor painting that reflects the colors that speak to their feelings in that moment as well as brush strokes that display their emotions as well. Relaxing music will play in the background.

Sci Fi & Fantasy Drawing

Explore the fascinating world of fantasy creatures in this exciting class! We will depict Dragons, Dinos, Mecha, Monsters, Robots, Elves, Gnomes, Trolls, Shape-Shifters, Mutants, Clones, Giant Insectoids, Animal-Creature Hybrids, Multi-Creature Hybrids, and all the amazing things they do! Running, flying, swimming, battling foes, rescuing heroes, breathing fire, etc.!
