ART START: Discover Creative Pathways to Enrich Critical Thinking

During this workshop participants will explore how to implement thinking routines to inspire inquiry, start conversations, spark imagination and make connections to curriculum and each other. Learning will be made visible with three hands-on art projects adaptable for all grades and subjects. All artmaking materials will be mailed out to registered participants.

Beginning Stained Glass

This introductory class provides a foundation for stained glass using the copper foil technique.  We will cover designing projects for glass, the art of glass cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, finishing and presentation.

Beginning/Intermediate Silversmithing

Beginning students will learn how to fabricate jewelry from metal sheet and wire.  Begin with basic skills such as forging, soldering and setting cabochon stones.  Learn to use a jeweler's saw and other hand tools.

Ceramic Garden Gnomes

This is your time to create some cute garden gnomes for your yard! Using different colored clay and glazes, you can make boys or girls or one of each! Have fun with it!

Exploring Borosilicate Glass

This class will give students the opportunity to work on anything that they would like to work on in borosilicate glass. Students are encouraged to bring with them an idea of something to make or to just explore glass. Solid or hollow work will be covered as well as a couple of coloring techniques.

Fantastic Fire & Wax: Encaustic Shellac Burns and Other Fiery Fun!

In this fun and fiery workshop we will focus on intermediate and advanced encaustic techniques. These techniques will include wet and dry shellac burns, working with alcohol based inks, oil pigment sticks, and mixed media collage.

Frame Loom Weaving Workshop

This three-hour session includes a one hour demo and instruction session, time for questions, your loom and tools, one weaving needle and a color coordinated bundle of fun and new-weaver-friendly yarns.

Fused Christmas Cookie Ornaments

You will be creating fused glass ornaments to hang on your tree and/or to give as gifts.

Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will decorate precut ornament shapes with frit, stringers, noodles and nuggets. We will also add some dichroic scrap pieces for some extra bling.

Fused Coral Sea Bowl

Create a beautiful sea-inspired coral bowl to adorn your tabletop.

Students will make a 10"-13" fused coral bowl using strips of glass. Additional design elements can be added with frit and nuggets.

Fused Glass Penguin Plate

This workshop will give you a chance to create a fused glass project even if you have never worked with any kind of glass.  Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have a chance to use various sizes of frit with the precut shapes.  You will be creating an 8" square curved plate with a penguin in the snow of your own design.

Intro to Watercolor Landscapes

This class will teach watercolor fundamentals to individuals who are new to watercolor painting. Fundamentals include paper type and watercolor technique using the natural landscape as subject matter.

Lampwork Beadmaking Students Open Studio Time

This Lampworking Open Studio is a time for Intermediate and Advanced students to practice what they have learned and make more beads.

Lampwork Glass Beadmaking

If you're fascinated by baubles, bangles, and beads, this one day class is for you. You will make many glass beads as you learn the basic skills of heating Moretti (soft) glass, applying it to a mandrel, and shaping it with tools.

Lampworking: Make a Pipe

This class is a one day workshop of practicing working with hollow glass to make a functional pipe.

Students will learn how to use blow tubes, weld glass, use a punty, and how to shape hollow glass.

Mixed Media Acrylic - Holding Space: Large Acrylics

Vessels, bottles and holders of all sorts will make a showing in this expressive and meaningful work. We will discuss why and go where it takes us. Always a lovely subject.

In this workshop we'll create 3 large paintings using mixed media on artist papers.

Paint Like Pollock

Take a look into the intriguing art of Jackson Pollock known as action paintings, also known as fractal or abstract drip splatter paintings. Students will dribble, splatter and splash paint onto a large canvas while painting on the floor, Pollock style.

Silk Painting Level 2

For those who are comfortable with basic Serti (resist line) silk painting, Janet Lehwalder offers an advanced class. Learn new skills in shading, layering, color mixing and line building. Try alternative resists and fabrics. Bring a picture or design and learn to adapt it to this medium. "You'll be amazed at the possibilities in silk painting", says Janet. "Few people are aware of the wide range of work that is being done on silk." Plenty of time for one-to-one assistance.

Traditional Sign Painting

Weekend Adv Silversmithing - Jewelry Workshop

*Students must have taken the Beginning-Intermediate Silversmithing course or have instructor's permission to take this class. 

After learning basic silversmithing skills in the beginning class, students can hone those skills with guided individual projects. The instructor presents more techniques and working side by side with other students creating their individual projects broadens the experience.
