Dare to Paint! Abstracts

We will be creating a large series of free flowing abstracts by way of "letting go, and letting our paint and movements tell our internal stories". You will create LARGE beautiful art on heavy papers and canvas. This is such a fun expressive workshop, can't wait!

Visible Mending with Tenun

In this class we discuss ethical fashion practices and how mending goes hand in hand with that mission. I'll teach basic hand sewing techniques and how to design a sashiko stitch pattern to make your mending a beautiful work of art.

Weekend Beginning Silversmithing

Beginning students will learn how to fabricate jewelry from metal sheet and wire.  Begin with basic skills such as forging, soldering and setting cabochon stones.  Learn to use a jeweler's saw and other hand tools.

Fused Penguin Plate

This workshop will give you a chance to create a fused glass project even if you have never worked with any kind of glass.  Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have a chance to use various sizes of frit with the precut shapes.  You will be creating an 8" square curved plate with a penguin in the snow.

Develop Your Photographer's Eye

Compose mindfully and creatively. Avoid distractions, tailor backgrounds, see opportunities, use the right lens. Become aware of what will draw the viewer into your images.

Intro to a Jewelry Saw

Enter a new realm of jewelry techniques by learning how to use a jeweler's saw. Bring your own designs, or choose one of our samples to cut out of metal with a saw and create a pendant. Students will learn both sawing and piercing metal as well as finishing and filing steps to creating a smooth, eye-catching piece.

Stamped Metal Jewelry

In this class you will learn to stamp metal with words, sayings, song lyrics or numbers. You will learn the basics of metal stamping, discover some tips and tricks to make the process easier as well as fun.

Lapidary I

Students will learn techniques to shape a slab of stone into a cabochon suitable for use in jewelry or other art work (hardness no greater than 7).

Stencil Graffiti

Learn how to apply a timeless technique with a modern vibe through stencil graffiti.

Students will learn layering approaches using stencils to create modern and bold art.

Students will make custom stencils and make prints prior to creating their final canvas graffiti production.

New Bark: Shimmer & Glimmer

Discover the beauty and flexibility of willow bark woven onto a molded form. Learn and choose how to use the potential of natural materials. Explore forming a base, twining, simple weave to a shapely contour. Become familiar with border options and finish techniques. Great fun for all levels and a glowing treasure on your table!

Fused Geometric Wall Clock

You will be creating a bright colorful contemporary wall clock which will add a splash of color to your home or office.

Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have a chance to use frit, stringers, and nuggets with other geometric shapes of glass. We will discuss how to drill a hole in your project and the placement of the hole for proper mounting on the wall.

Fabulous Acrylic Pours

Students will explore and learn the popular and fascinating, fast and exciting new art form of acrylic pours.

Students will learn how to prep their canvas, selecting colors, paint layering, several techniques of applying paint to the surface, as well as finishing the artwork and prep for hanging.

Enameling is the art of fusing powdered glass to metal. This class will teach the three basic techniques of enameling. Students will learn to stencil, cloisonne and chambleve on copper.

Hot & Spicy Encaustics

Let's get busy creating a series of 4 works on wood with the spicy colors of the season! Combine them with grays and cools for some pop, this is always a great workshop that produces great art. I'll demo pumpkins and carving wax for depth, and fall landscapes, however you may paint whatever you enjoy!

Coiled Pine Needle Basket Weaving - Beginning

You will learn the basic methods of coiled weaving. We will use pine needles as our weaving material, though this technique can be used with other materials as well. You will start your weaving around a decorative center. You will use the basic swirling stitch gives your woven piece stability and is very attractive. Learn how to shape your basket to its desired form.

Block Printing & Carving on Fabric

Woodblock printing on textiles is the process of printing patterns on textiles, usually of linen, cotton or silk, by means of incised wooden blocks. It is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of textile printing. Come learn how to create woodblocks and design your own scarf.

Decorative Fused Glass Lantern

You will be creating a beautiful decorative lantern with fused panels to enjoy outdoors or indoors.

Connecting STEM to NW Tribal Culture

This interactive workshop will explore cultural aspects of the NW Coast Native Americans. Participants will learn how resources were utilized within their environment and attain ideas for integrating the required OSPI tribal sovereignty curriculum into other content areas.

Electro Etched Copper Pendants or Earrings

Electro-etching is a fabulous low-tech and low-cost way to add design and dimension to a flat sheet of metal. You'll choose a design from a selection provided, transfer it to copper sheet, etch the metal (re-purposed phone chargers are involved - very cool!), cut out your earrings or pendant, and dome your pieces before finishing them.

Tiny Glass Pumpkins - An Intro to Lampwork Glass

Create small glass pumpkins by heating glass rods in the flame of a bench-mounted torch and transferring the molten gather onto the end of a stainless steel mandrel. Learn to control the glass and form it into a sphere which can then be shaped into a pumpkin while still molten. A great introduction to the basics of manipulating hot glass on a very small scale!

Silk Painting: The Serti Method

You've always admired the beauty of silk and the colorful scarves and clothing designers create with it.  Learn to create those beautiful colors and designs yourself.  Discover the simple Serti technique of painting on silk.  Trace your design onto the silk with a resist, using a pattern from my collection or yours.  The dyes are then applied with a brush, flowing and blending naturally to create paintings, scarves, quilts, home decor, cards and more.  Simple enough for beginners, silk painting is also an exciting way for experienced painters to transfer their talents to fabric. You'll complete a 22x22" scarf as you learn the basic skills of design, color mixing, blending and texturing.
