Art+Athletes+Activism

The Schack and KCTS 9 are excited to recognize students that received the highest achievement of Grand Prize for their original 2D piece of artwork reflecting one of Ali’s principles and written description of how the piece represents the principle selected.

This was open to 6-12 graders residing in Washington State’s King, SnohomishSkagit, Island, Whatcom, and Kitsap Counties. 

Artwork will be part of a virtual event on KCTS 9 on September 23.  The event celebrates the premiere of the Ken Burns documentary, Muhammad Ali premiering on KCTS 9 on September 19th.

Artwork can be viewed in person at the Schack Art Center on September 23rd-November 6.

Ken Burns gives us an inside look at Muhammad Ali and interviews with those featured in the film, including Rasheda Ali, Hana Ali, Author Todd Boyd, Writer Gerald Early, Scholar of Islam Sherman Jackson, and many more. Muhammad Ali is a four-part, eight-hour limited series directed by Ken Burns and written and co-directed by Sarah Burns and David McMahon. The film brings to life one of the best-known and most indelible figures of the 20th Century, a three-time heavyweight boxing champion who captivated millions of fans with his mesmerizing combination of speed, grace, and power in the ring, and charm and playful boasting outside of it. Ali insisted on being himself unconditionally and became a global icon and inspiration to people everywhere.
