Spring Senior Portfolio Exhibition and Scholarship Contest

April 27-June 5

See exhibit page and scholarship honorees here.

Adjudication

Portfolio submissions were adjudicated by a panel of judges based on four criteria: originality, technical skill, emergence of personal voice or vision, and cohesiveness of theme or idea. Portfolios will be considered for the Susan Jane Russel Scholarship and the Everett Rotary Bernie Webber Scholarships.

Susan Jane Russell Scholarship

Schack Art Center's college scholarship was first funded by a group of local artists who noticed the absence of scholarships for young artists in the community. They created an endowment at the Schack Art Center (then known as the Arts Council of Snohomish County) and over the past 30 years, contributors have increased the scholarship fund. A high school senior with plans to pursue a career in art is selected for the award every February through the Scholastic Art Awards.

The scholarship name was changed several years ago to honor Susan Jane Russell who was instrumental in bringing the Scholastic Arts program to Snohomish County. Russell was an acclaimed artist who was honored as the Schack's first Artist of the Year in 1992. She also was a beloved art teacher at Snohomish High School for more than 20 years.

Bernie Webber Scholarship

The Bernie Webber Everett Rotary Club Scholarships are provided to the most qualified student based on the following criteria: scholastic record, aptitude, leadership, motivation, school activities, community involvement and financial need.

Bernie Webber endeared himself as a true Everett treasure. He was named Artist of the Year in 2004 by the Arts Council of Snohomish County. Most recently, a new scholarship in his honor, the Bernie Webber Scholarship Endowment Fund was established by the Rotary Club of Everett, of which Webber was a member for 53 years. The Scholarship will be offered to students who plan to pursue a career in art.

Seniors graduating in 2022 can submit porfolios to the Scholastic Art Awards Snohomish County Region to be considered for these Scholarships. Due Date January 4, 11 PM
