About the Susan Jane Russell Scholarship

Schack Art Center's college scholarship was first funded by a group of local artists who noticed the absence of scholarships for young artists in the community. They created an endowment at the Schack Art Center (then known as the Arts Council of Snohomish County) and over the past 30 years, contributors have increased the scholarship fund. A high school senior with plans to pursue a career in art is selected for the award every February through the Scholastic Art Awards.

The scholarship name was changed several years ago to honor Susan Jane Russell who was instrumental in bringing the Scholastic Arts program to Snohomish County. Russell was an acclaimed artist who was honored as the Schack's first Artist of the Year in 1992. She also was a beloved art teacher at Snohomish High School for more than 20 years.
