A high school senior was plans to pursue a career in art is selected for the award every February through the Scholastic Art Awards.

The scholarship name was changed a few years ago to honor Susan Jane Russell who was instrumental in bringing the Scholastic Arts program to Snohomish County. Russell was an acclaimed artist who was honored as the Schack's first Artist of the Year in 1992. She also was a beloved art teacher at Snohomish High School for more than 20 years.
