ART ALTERNATIVES

Denney Juvenile Justice Community Partner Collaboration

For over 30 years, the Schack has partnered with Denney to provide art education classes for their students. Students participate in weekly classes and are introduced to the elements and principles of art through hands-on art lessons and high-quality art materials.

Art Alternative instructors use art as a vehicle to build relationships and skills, empowering youth to grow into creative and confident community members. Instructors work to stay informed of current best practice research to implement the most hopeful and promising strategies using art to positively engage youth.

This program is funded by those who support Schack’s goals of serving this County with diverse cultural and artistic enrichment.

Art Alternative’s students are recognized for their creative achievements annually during an exhibition in the Emerging Young Artists Gallery. This exhibition honors the students’ work and connects them with their community.

CHILDREN’S BOOK

Every two years, we publish 6,000 bi-lingual preschool books created by Denney students who create the artwork, write the text, and translate the text from English to Spanish. These books are distributed to preschools, daycare centers and through the Volunteers of America.
