SPRING EDUCATOR WORKSHOP - Food as a Catalyst for Creativity, Connection, and Learning
Spring Educator Workshop: Friday, March 26th , 5:00pm-8:00pm & Saturday, March 27th 8:00am-12:00pm
Food as a Catalyst for Creativity, Connection, and Learning
Earn WA State Clock Hours while exploring the powerful role that food can play in teaching across the curriculum.
Food is more than nourishment. It's a universal language that carries stories, traditions, scientific discovery, cultural identity, and creative expression. In this hands-on professional development workshop, K–12 educators will discover how food can become a meaningful entry point for engaging students in art while making authentic connections to STEM, literacy, social-emotional learning, and cultural studies.
Through interactive artmaking, collaborative discussion, and classroom-ready activities, participants will investigate how themes of food can inspire storytelling, strengthen community, encourage creative problem-solving, and spark curiosity about the science and systems behind what we eat. Educators will leave with practical strategies for integrating visual arts into interdisciplinary lessons that foster both creative thinking and academic learning.
Whether you teach art, science, language arts, social studies, or elementary classrooms, this workshop offers fresh ideas for creating engaging, standards-connected learning experiences that resonate with students' everyday lives.
Participants will:
Earn WA State Clock Hours for professional certification renewal.
Explore interdisciplinary connections between visual art, storytelling, STEM, and culture.
Create original artwork inspired by themes of food, identity, and connection.
Learn adaptable lesson ideas for K–12 classrooms that encourage creativity, inquiry, and collaboration.
Leave with classroom resources and inspiration to bring art-integrated learning to students of all ages.
