Discover the beauty and unexpected patterns of traditional Japanese Shibori dyeing using rich, organic indigo. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore a variety of Shibori techniques—including folding, binding, clamping, and stitching—to create unique designs on fabric and garments.
You’ll learn the basics of creating and working with an indigo vat while experimenting with different resist-dyeing techniques and combinations. Along the way, you’ll explore the history, chemistry, terminology, and traditions behind indigo and Shibori.
Fabric will be provided for practice, and students are encouraged to bring their own light-colored cotton or natural-fiber garments to transform through the dyeing process. No previous dyeing experience is required.
All supplies will be provided. Dress for mess!
