Explore the playful and versatile world of gel plate printing while building your skills through experimentation and hands-on practice.
Day 1: Play, Explore, and Experiment
Begin by exploring color, texture, and shape using an 8 x 10-inch gel plate. Experiment with found objects and hand-cut stencils while learning how to build layers using transparent and opaque pigments. This first day focuses on playful exploration and developing a feel for the possibilities of gel printing.
Day 2: Build Abstract Compositions
Put your new skills into practice as you create finished abstract compositions and work on more precise registration. You’ll also explore techniques using acrylic markers and chine-collé on the gel plate, adding new ways to create texture, detail, and visual interest in your prints.
All levels are welcome! Beginners can start their gel printing journey in this workshop, while students with previous gel plate experience will have the opportunity to expand their skills and explore new techniques.
All supplies are provided by the instructor. An apron and sketchbook are recommended.
