Mother-of-pearl inlay, known as luo dian in Chinese, is a traditional art form admired for its luminous, iridescent beauty and detailed craftsmanship. In this hands-on workshop, students will explore this technique through a simplified, beginner-friendly approach while creating their own piece of jewelry.

Participants will learn the basics of working with shell materials, including cutting, shaping, and arranging pieces to create a balanced design. Along the way, students will also be introduced to the history and cultural context of mother-of-pearl inlay.

A variety of project options will be available—such as pendants, earrings, or brooches—and students will be able to choose their own colors and compositions, making each piece unique.

No prior experience is required. By the end of the class, each student will complete a finished, wearable piece that highlights the natural beauty of mother-of-pearl.

All supplies provided.
