Have you ever had a difficult critique experience or wished you could look at art and better understand why you like or dislike it? This class explores the art of looking and provides practical tools for thoughtfully engaging with artwork—whether you’re visiting a gallery, participating in a critique group, or looking at your own work with fresh eyes.
Students will learn the Description, Analysis, and Interpretation method of critique before exploring an adapted version of Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. Through examples by a range of artists and optional discussion of student work, you’ll practice giving and receiving constructive feedback while building confidence, curiosity, and community.
No art experience is required—just a willingness to look closely and share your perspective.
