The Schack Artist in Residence program supports emerging and established artists across disciplines in the exploration and development of new work in a supportive, community-connected environment. Through access to studio space, materials, exhibition opportunities, and engagement with the public, the program fosters artistic growth and deepens Schack's impact as a creative and cultural hub in Everett and beyond.
THE CREATIVE CURRENT
Residency Structure
Duration: 6 months (September - March).
Disciplines: Open to artists working in glass, printmaking, painting, sculpture, mixed media, jewelry, silversmithing, lapidary and more.
Location: Schack Art Center, Everett, WA.
ELIGIBILITY
Open to local and regional artists aged 18+.
Must demonstrate consistent studio practice and professional experience.
Demonstrate proficiency in the tools, techniques, and equipment relevant to proposed medium.
Must complete a basic Studio Access Test to ensure safe and independent use of Schack Art Center’s specialized equipment and studio spaces.
Be able to commit to regular, weekly studio use.
Program Offerings
Studio Space: Complimentary private access to a studio for a minimum of 10 hours per week. Maximum hours vary by studio and medium.
Stipend: A stipend will be awarded for use on supplies.
Exhibition: Residents will be considered for inclusion in the upcoming Schack exhibitions based on medium, subject matter, and available opportunities.
Education Opportunities: Complimentary enrollment in up to five Schack workshops or classes (subject to availability; some restrictions apply).
Website & Social Media: A dedicated page on schack.org will be set up highlighting our resident artists. We will feature their journey on social media every month.
ARTIST EXPECTATIONs
Maintain active presence at Schack.
Create new work during residency period.
Contribute one or more pieces to our H’Arts Auction.
Residents are expected to be present for at least five of the following scheduled events during their residency.
Everett Artwalk: 5-8pm (September 18, October 16, November 20, December 17, January 15)
Pints + Pumpkins: 5-8pm (September 25)
Opening Receptions: 5-8pm (October 9, November 20, January 15)
Saturdays or Sundays: 12pm-5pm
Respect shared studio policies, safety, and cleanliness standards.
Share documentation and/or insights at the end of residency for promotional/archival purposes.
AdditionAL Opportunities
Participating in a Schack education programs for youth including Teen Night, Art Sparks, Field Trips, Educator Workshops, etc.
Complimentary access to participate in 1 festival. 10x10 tent will be provided.
Opportunities to connect with visiting artists, curators, or community partners.
