Twigs, Buds & Seeds: Handmade Ring Workshop
Dates: Saturday & Sunday, June 6 -7, from 10 am to 4 pm
Fee: $340/ discount with member code
Ages: 18+
Levels: Beginner/Intermediate
Sessions: 2
Instructor: Tamara Kelly
Location: Schack Art Center, Metalsmithing Studio
Create your own mini collection of rings inspired by the shapes and textures of nature. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and craft 3–4 silver and bronze rings, exploring forms inspired by twigs, buds, and seeds. One ring in your set will include a stone setting, allowing you to learn basic stone-setting techniques. Emphasis is placed on organic textures, cohesive design, and wearable form, making this class perfect for both beginners and intermediate students.
Through the workshop, you’ll practice foundational metalsmithing techniques, including shaping, texturing, forming, and finishing, while developing a unified design concept for your collection. By the end of the class, you’ll have a polished series of rings that are unique individually but clearly connected as a set.
Materials: Base materials are provided, but students may bring recycled silver, stones, or small pieces of gold for accents if desired.
What to Bring
Apron
Sketchpad or notebook for design ideas
Pencils or a fine-tip Sharpie
Hair tie (for long hair)
Optional Materials
Students are welcome to bring materials they may want to incorporate into their designs, such as:
Recycled silver (scrap, sheet, or wire)
Cabochon stones
Small pieces of gold for accents
Students may choose whichever materials best suit their design ideas. Base materials will be available in class if needed.
All tools provided.
