In this beginner-friendly oil painting class, you’ll learn the key techniques and fundamentals needed to work confidently and safely with oils. Guided by a classically trained artist, you’ll build a strong foundation in material handling, color mixing, brushwork, and composition.
By the end of the course, you’ll understand how to use oils effectively and have the skills to create balanced, well-executed paintings.

You’re welcome to order these supplies online, but if you have the time, it’s recommended to visit your local art store instead. This gives you a chance to explore the variety of materials available and compare items in person.. ArtSpot Edmonds and Artist & Craftsman Supply are great places. Blick is also a good alternative.
Oil Paint (one 4oz tube or smaller of each color:
*Be cautious not to get water soluble oil paint!
Ivory Black
Burnt Sienna
Titanium White
Raw Umber
Ultramarine Blue
A container to wash paints in (any container that can double as a brush cleaning and solvent storage is good—a glass jar is ok too!)
A container for linseed oil (a glass jar is ok too!)
Paintbrushes (there are many options—you can always ask your local art store to help you put together a set that fits your budget, but you will want an assortment of sizes and styles of synthetic or mongoose brushes in filbert, flat, and round. This is an example of a starter set, but please feel free to shop around.
