Ready to dive into watercolor and have a go painting outside? This two-day workshop is designed for beginners or anyone who wants to refresh their skills while painting outdoors. It’s the perfect way to experiment with watercolor techniques in a relaxed, social environment—while connecting with others who share your enthusiasm for the craft.
We’ll start at the Schack Art Center before heading (weather permitting) to the Everett Marina for a day of painting en plein air. Working outdoors allows you to capture the true colors, light, and textures of your surroundings—not to mention, it’s a much more engaging way to learn than working from a photo in a studio!
In this workshop, you’ll learn key watercolor techniques like washes, color mixing, and glazing while working on subjects such as trees, water, and skies. As you paint, you'll discover how to embrace the fluidity and unpredictability of watercolor, and how to let go of perfectionism to create more spontaneous, expressive work.
All materials are provided—just bring your curiosity, a small seat or cushion for working outside.

In this introductory level class we will begin with learning how to make a simple lampwork bead with "soft glass" (Effetre). As time permits, everyone may also try out small glass flower presses.

Gelli printing is easy and fun! In this two-day workshop, students will use leaves, grasses, and blossoms to create several simple and charming compositions printed in different color combinations on a variety of papers. Students will be provided with a gel plate, brayer, paint, papers, and botanicals to incorporate into the designs of their choice. On day two of the workshop, students can cut, collage, and reassemble their prints into finished works for home decor, note cards, journal additions, and more. The only limit is your imagination!
Please bring to class an apron to protect clothing and any papers you think might be fun to use as well as a botanical collection of simple forms that will lie flat on the plate.

Come learn about printmaking! Create your own body of work while exploring a variety of printmaking techniques, both traditional and new. You’ll have the chance to try processes like collagraph (printing from textured surfaces), intaglio (etching into metal plates), monotype (one-of-a-kind prints), and relief (printing from carved surfaces). Come with an idea of what you’d like to create, and we’ll help guide you through the steps to make it happen!
Please bring something to take notes with such as a sketchpad or notebook.
