Sessions: 1

Location: Schack Art Center, Flame and Kiln Studio

Learn the fundamentals of glass fusing while designing and creating your own functional serving set. In this one-day workshop, participants will explore how to safely cut, arrange, and layer colorful sheet glass to build original compositions that are kiln-fired and then slumped into finished tableware.

Students will begin by selecting one of three project formats: a statement set (one large plate or bowl paired with two smaller matching pieces), a social set (two medium plates, dishes, or bowls), or a coaster set (six coasters). All designs are created using a 10” x 14” sheet of clear glass or smaller, combined with a curated selection of colored glass for added depth, pattern, and expression.

Throughout the class, participants will learn the fundamentals of cutting and arranging sheet glass for fusing, including basic design principles, safe handling techniques, and how kiln processes transform flat glass into dimensional, functional objects. No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment with color, form, and light.

All pieces are kiln-fired after the workshop, with finished work ready for pickup and everyday use.

All supplies provided.

Please wear closed-toe shoes.
