You will be creating a beautiful wrought iron fused glass garden stake to add a splash of color in your yard or on your patio.

Students will learn basic fusing concepts and will have the opportunity to use transparent and/or opalescent colored glass on a clear base along with frit, stringers, and nuggets. You will be given tips on design and layout to create your own unique garden stake.

You will make a 2 3/4” x 24” fused glass panel to insert into a wrought iron garden stake that stands approximately 43” high. Class includes all supplies and the garden stake.

Come experience the wonder of natural dyeing in this one-day workshop! Learn how to scour and mordant cotton fabric and apply natural color using immersion dyeing techniques.

By the end of the workshop, participants will understand how to properly prepare cotton for the dye bath and create their own natural dye pot. Each student will leave with a beautifully dyed cotton bandana they’ve prepared and dyed during class, along with three additional cotton samples to take home.

In this workshop, students will learn how to create a relief fruit sculpture on canvas using lightweight construction foam and flexible modeling paste. Each participant will select a fruit of their choice—such as a pomegranate, lemon, orange, or similar—and build the raised form using sculpting foam as the core structure.

Students will refine the surface and sculpt dimensional branches using SamanArt Flexible Modeling Paste. They will also learn painting techniques for both the background and the sculpted fruit using acrylics, and will complete their piece with painted leaves to enhance the composition.

By the end of the session, each student will have a fully sculpted and painted 16x20-inch relief artwork ready to take home.

Welcome to the vibrant world of mosaics! In this hands-on introductory workshop, you'll learn the essential techniques needed to create beautiful mosaic art.

Creating tiny glass hearts is a fun introduction to sculpting with glass. Using rods of borosilicate glass and bench-mounted flameworking torches, students will learn how to melt and shape glass. Different methods of applying color will be covered.

Students will learn how to safely operate a flameworking torch and how to use the flame to melt and shape borosilicate glass into heart shapes. We will also experiment with applying frit and stringer to the hot glass for added color and decoration.

We will paint a variety of subjects- landscapes, animals, portraits, and still lives, and explore color, value, shadow, perspective, materials, and brush handling in this fun and informative class for everyone! After learning basic silversmithing skills at the beginning of class, students can hone those skills with guided individual projects. The instructor presents more techniques and working side by side with other students creating their individual projects broadens the experience.

Learn how to create handmade earwires and assemble matching earrings using essential wire-working techniques. In this class, students will practice looping, shaping, filing, hardening, and attaching dangles, as well as making decorative headpins from wire. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with three to four completed earring sets and the skills needed to continue creating your own earrings at home.

Families and educators—join us for Homeschool Art Day at the Schack Art Center!

Explore a variety of artistic themes and techniques, from watercolor to collage, while building skills in composition, color theory, and art history. Each session features an engaging theme and is designed to complement academic learning by encouraging literacy, observation, critical thinking, communication, and social development.

This program provides a wonderful opportunity for connection and collaboration among homeschool groups in a fun, creative setting.

Please note:

• Youth must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

• Register for each child attending.

• Caregivers must attend with their child(ren) but do not need to register themselves.

If your schedule doesn’t allow for a multi-week class, this three-hour Saturday workshop offers a flexible and supportive way to work in the stained glass studio.

Students will have access to studio equipment, including grinders, with an instructor on hand to provide guidance, technical support, and troubleshooting throughout the session.

You can choose the skills you’d like to focus on, whether designing a new stained glass project or continuing work on an existing piece. Instruction may include edge soldering, copper foil overlay, incorporating materials such as river rocks, and exploring three-dimensional forms like hinged boxes.

Students must bring their own tools, supplies, and materials.

Previous stained glass experience is required.

Location: Schack Art Center, Printmaking Studio

This two-session class focuses on collagraphy, a method of printmaking using glue and collage to create a printable surface. Through a variety of techniques, ink is applied and transferred to paper by use of a printing press. In the first session, students learn how different collage techniques to translate to print and then create their own collages to print the following day.

Please bring something to take notes with such as a sketchpad or notebook and ideas for imagery.

Bring a little sparkle to your home with your own mosaic glass bird! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll arrange colorful glass pieces directly onto the surface using the glass-on-glass mosaic technique.

After class, the instructor will grout your bird, and your finished piece will be ready to pick up about a week later.

No prior mosaic experience is needed — all skill levels are welcome.
